Early in the morning, we gathered at the foyer of our faculty and wait for the arrival of our transportation. It is delayed for a while and make the following activities a bit rush.

The food prepared for kids and teachers

We managed to reach the kindergarden on time. As soon as we reached there, we started to set up the venue. Some are removing the tables and chairs to create a larger space for activities.

The teachers help us to get them calm down.

The kids are lining up.

Ng started the introduction by introducing himself and the other members. The main purpose of our visit is to educate the kids and raise their awareness regarding Dengue fever. Then, the kids are divided into 8 groups with 4 person per group with two facilitators in a group. Me and Alya are placed in group 8. Since there are 8 groups, for the first activity - Have you heard of Dengue fever, two speakers are allocated for 4 groups each. For Group 5 to Group 8, the speakers for this session is Ee Fang and Chee Ying. They slowly introduced the concept of Aedes mosquito and Dengue fever to the kids. However, as the kids are still unfamiliar with them, the response from the kids is not as much as anticipated.

Next, we move on to the following activity which is Waste Disposal. Every group is given with a few pieces of paper which are showing the wrong and correct method of disposing the waste. Alya and I are guiding the kids on the correct method of disposing garbage and every kid is managed to recognise the correct and incorrect way of throwing rubbish.

The following game is I am Detective Game and Field Trip. All the kids are lining up in front of the kindergarden before proceeding to the playground nearby. The kids are required to look for rubbish at the playground area and put into the correct rubbish bin according to its category. Every correct answer will be given one mark. At the same time, facilitators are also leading them and showing them the possible places that mosquitoes breed. However, as the groups are proceeding one group by one group, the groups who reach the playground late have lesser chance of finding the rubbish as most of the rubbish has been picked up by the groups who reach earlier.

The kids then carry on with the next game which is Run & Catch activity. In this game, the facilitators will pretend as the Aedes mosquitoes and kids need to run away from them. This game is carried out at a court next to the playground. Lucky for us that the weather is very sunny today so the outdoor activities are able to be implemented. The kids are running all around the court to avoid the "mosquitoes".

After the outdoor games, the kids are back into their kindergarden once again. They are surprised by what they found - a clown! The clown is making different shapes and colours of balloons and distribute them to the kids. The kids are so excited that they hardly sit down to have their meal.

Laying out the carpet for the kids to have their meal

After having their meal and their balloon (at least one for each kid ;)), the magic show starts! The clown are showing different yet funny magic to the kids and facilitators. The kids are willing to listen to the clown and gather together to watch the show.

The break time and the magic show last for an hour. The kids are back to their respective group and ready for the next activity which is the Sharing Session: Have You Been Sick? This time, the speaker is Ee Fang and Nazima. As the kids are getting closer with us, they are more active and able to answer the questions clearly. Every kid who managed to answer the questions correctly is given a small gift as reward.

Moving on to the next game - Play Doctor, the kids are role-playing as doctors and patients. They use the tools in the play doctor set and the facilitators are guiding them.

The last game is Get Know to Mr Aedes. Alya and I show and explain to them about the life cycle of mosquitoes. The kids take turn to paste the pictures of mosquitoes  at the correct stage of life cycle. Last but not least, as the kids are now able to recognise Aedes mosquitoes, it's time for them to do colouring. Everyone is given a piece of colouring paper and they colour it according to the sample. As the time is running short, all the facilitators are helping the kids to colour the mosquitoes. The one with the best artwork will be given a small gift!

Finally, it's closing ceremony. Every kid is queuing up and is given a goodies bag. There are a lot of things inside the goodies bag. There is also souvenir for the teachers, representative from iM4U and NGO.

Photo session!
